Due to the surprisingly rainy and rather dreary weather on the first day of the 2010 Australian Open, a number of tennis matches were delayed and rescheduled. (Only two of Melbourne Park’s tennis courts are indoors; the remaining 21 courts are all outside.) I had purchased a day pass for the matches at the HiSense Arena, and I was lucky that another great match was relocated to HiSense that night—Elena Dementieva vs. Vera Dushevina (both are from Russia, and they are a bit blurrily pictured above).
The 5th seeded Dementieva beat the unseeded Dushevina pretty easily (6-2, 6-1), but unfortunately her time at the Open was cut short. Dementieva lost her second round match to Justine Henin just two days later (5-7, 6-7).
