The Eiffel Tower (or La Tour Eiffel in French) is possibly the most famous landmark in the world, and it’s certainly the most famous one in France. I think I visit the Eiffel Tower everytime I visit Paris, and it never fails to impress me.
The tower itself was built for the 1889 World’s Fair, and it’s named for its designer, Gustave Eiffel. It’s constructed of iron, and it’s more than 1,000 feet tall or about 325 meters tall. It was the tallest building in the world until 1930 (the Chrysler Building in New York City opened that year). According to Wikipedia, the Eiffel Tower is the single most-visited, paid monument in the world.
During my 2003 visit to Paris, I climbed to the top and enjoyed the fantastic view of the city from up there. I’ll post a couple of my city view photos in my next blog post.
I took these photos in Paris, France, in April 2003.
