Hi! My name is Kathy Keating, and I’m an American living in Melbourne, Australia. If you’re reading this, then chances are good you’re either related to me or know me personally. If not, then please let me take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.
I grew up in northern New York and led a pretty sheltered life until my early adulthood. After graduating from college and working for a few years in “the real world,” I married my amazing husband, and we moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We lived there for almost seven years, and we really loved it. We visited Australia a couple times from Amsterdam, and we really liked both the country and the people—so much so, in fact, that we thought it’d be a great place to live. My husband found a job in Melbourne not long after, and we moved here in 2009. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far. Melbourne has a great atmosphere, and the Aussies are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met! I highly recommend visiting, if you have the chance.
Although these international moves have been really challenging at times, I know I’m incredibly lucky to be having these experiences! I’ve been able to live in cultures different from my own and travel around the world too. I feel like I’ve been able to grow as a person in ways I might never have done had I remained in the States.
